Movement has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a former competitive athlete, I learned early on how movement builds strength, discipline, and confidence. Pilates eventually became another passion, and I've been teaching it for more than 20 years.
I founded MickiPhit in 2011 because I wanted to make Pilates more accessible, and I launched my online studio in 2018 to help people move on their own schedules, wherever they are.
Then came a back injury and degenerative disc issues. I spent more than a year in physical therapy before gradually reintroducing movement. I had to learn to approach exercise differently, respect my body's limitations, and redefine what progress looked like.
Movement isn't about pushing through everything or performing every exercise perfectly. Sometimes, progress is simply showing up, adapting, and trusting that small steps matter.
At this stage of my life, I'm less focused on how my body looks and more focused on what it allows me to do. I want to keep lifting weights, practicing Pilates, traveling, spending time with the people I love, and saying yes to new experiences. Aging well isn't about trying to look or feel 25 again. It's about taking care of the person you're becoming.
If you haven't moved in a while, start where you are, with what you have. Start with five minutes. Build consistency before worrying about intensity. Your starting point doesn't define your potential, and movement should be something you do for yourself, not something you use to punish yourself.
It's never too late to begin, and you don't have to make up for lost time.
Your first step can be today.
